A 36-year-old
former teacher in Idaho has been busted for allegedly having sex with a teen by
cops who found the boy behind the wheel of her car because she was too “drunk
to drive,” authorities said.
Jessica Lawson is
facing felony rape charges after an officer from Saint Anthony Police
Department pulled over her vehicle with no visible taillights on the morning of
Nov. 6, only to find a teen boy in the driver’s seat of the car, East Idaho
News reported.
Lawson – who
taught at South Fremont High School from August 2021 through June 2023 – was
not in the car at the time, and the teen told police that she let him drive
“’due to her being too drunk to drive,'” the outlet continued, citing court
documents.
The adolescent
also admitted to having used marijuana before being driven home by the officer.
Later that day,
however, the teen’s parents called the officer back and reported that their son
told them that Lawson picked him up at 11 p.m. the night before and drove him
to her house in St. Anthony, according to East Idaho News.
Lawson eventually
called the teen’s mother and admitted to picking him up, taking him to her
home, and giving him alcohol, statements indicated.
She also admitted
to having marijuana in her house, but claimed she did not give the boy any and
denied that “‘anything else had occurred.’”
The Mesa, Arizona
native was subsequently charged with two felony counts of rape of a victim
between 16 and 17 years old and whom the perpetrator three or more years older
than, as well as a felony count of controlled substance delivery and the
misdemeanor of dispensing alcohol to a minor, accoring to online records.
She is currently
being held in Madison County Jail on a bond of $250,000.
Earlier this year,
Lawson updated her Facebook cover photo to a snapshot of a poem about
“occasions when placing an out-of-order sign across your heart seemed the
wisest decision. Only you didn’t” – which reads cryptically now given the
context of her arrest.
