Russell Brand has
been questioned by detectives from the Metropolitan Police over alleged
historical sex offences in the wake of a Times investigation into his treatment
of women.
Scotland Yard said
that a man in his forties, understood to be the comedian and actor, had
attended a police station in south London on Thursday, where he was questioned
in relation to three “non-recent” alleged sexual offences.
Brand was interviewed
under caution by detectives from the Met, which said that its investigation was
continuing.
The force first
encouraged potential victims to come forward after allegations of rape, sexual
assault and emotional abuse against the 48-year-old were reported in a joint
investigation by The Times, The Sunday Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches.
