Boy, 6, dies after allegedly being stapled to a wall and shot with a BB gun by his mother and her partner. Discover the tragic details
Elaina Rose Jennings, 25, and her boyfriend Daniel
John Giacchina, 32, were arrested and charged with first-degree murder, first-degree
child abuse, and lying to a police officer following the death of Jennings'
six-year-old son, Giovanni "Chulo" Jennings. The boy was allegedly
subjected to horrific abuse and torture, including being kept in a pen, stapled
to a wall, and shot multiple times with a BB gun.
The incident came to light on July 30 when Jennings
called 911, stating that her son was not breathing. Emergency responders from
the Madison Heights Police Department arrived at the Ackels mobile home
community, located about 13 miles north of Detroit, and found Chulo
unresponsive with multiple injuries. The boy was rushed to Ascension
Macomb-Oakland Hospital and later transferred to the Children's Hospital of
Michigan Stilson Specialty Center due to the severity of his condition.
Tragically, he passed away on July 31.
Authorities revealed that Chulo had endured
"severe abuse" and "regular" beatings at the hands of
Giacchina and Jennings. Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald described the
circumstances as among the most horrific her office had ever encountered. The
abuse included confining Chulo in a pen, forcing him to sleep on a wooden slat,
and using a staple gun to bind him to the wall. The child had cuts, bruises,
and abrasions covering his body from head to toe.
The investigation revealed that Jennings and
Giacchina had planned to deceive the authorities by claiming that Chulo was
injured while in the care of Giacchina alone. The charges against Giacchina
also include possession of a firearm and ammunition as a felon.
The case has shocked the community, with Prosecutor
McDonald emphasizing the brutality and calculated nature of the abuse that
ultimately led to Chulo's death.
