Jenna Ortega reflects on laughing off rumors of dating Johnny Depp. Hear her take on the viral speculation.
Jenna Ortega Denies "Insane" Dating
Rumors with Johnny Depp, Calls Out Gossip Media
Rising star Jenna Ortega has spoken out against the
persistent and unfounded rumors linking her romantically to Johnny Depp. In a
recent feature with *BuzzFeed* for *The Puppy Interview*, the *Wednesday*
actress described the speculation as "so insane," and criticized
publications for spreading false narratives and fabricating quotes.
The rumors, which initially surfaced in 2023,
claimed that Ortega and Depp had been seen together while allegedly filming
*Beetlejuice 2*. The gossip quickly spiraled, suggesting the two were in a
serious relationship. Ortega, however, made it clear that there was no truth to
these claims.
"[The craziest rumor about me is] probably
that I was in a serious relationship with Johnny Depp, and I wanted everybody
to leave us alone," Ortega said during the interview. "It's so insane
to me. I never spoke on that. I never said anything like that."
While Ortega admitted that she found the rumors
somewhat "hilarious," she emphasized the harm in media outlets
spreading baseless stories. The actress even recounted an incident on the set
of *Death of a Unicorne*, where her co-star, Richard E. Grant, asked her about
the supposed relationship with Depp after hearing the rumors. Ortega could only
laugh, stating she didn't even know Depp.
Ortega previously took to Instagram to publicly
shut down the rumors in their early stages. In her story, she wrote, "This
is so ridiculous I can't even laugh. I have never met or worked with Johnny
Depp in my life. Please stop spreading lies and leave us alone."
Depp himself also addressed the rumors, with his
representative issuing a statement clarifying that the actor had no personal or
professional relationship with Ortega. Depp's team expressed outrage over the
false reports, calling them "baseless and malicious," and emphasizing
that they were intended to harm his reputation and career.
Ortega, who has been candid about the pressures of
living in the spotlight, has previously discussed the challenges of navigating
social media. In a 2023 interview for *Variety's Actors on Actors*, she broke
down in tears while discussing the toxicity of online platforms. Ortega
described feeling anxious about posting, fearing that her words could be taken
out of context or twisted. She explained the delicate balance between staying
connected with fans and protecting her own mental health.
The *Scream* actress continues to grapple with the
pitfalls of fame, while making it clear that she's focused on her career and
personal well-being, rather than the rumors that swirl around her.
