Moore Steps Up as Wolverines' New Head Coach
After nine successful years at the University of
Michigan, including a national championship win this past January, Jim Harbaugh
has made a bold move back to the NFL, taking on the head coach position for the
Los Angeles Chargers. Harbaugh's tenure with the Wolverines was marked by
success and resilience, particularly during a challenging 2023 season where his
team rallied behind him with a one-word mantra: "Bet."
Harbaugh's departure opened the door for Michigan's
offensive coordinator, Sherrone Moore, to step into the head coach role—a
transition that many saw coming. Moore had already proven his leadership
capabilities when he stepped in during Harbaugh's three-game suspension in
2023, guiding the Wolverines to victory in each game he coached.
Moore's promotion to head coach was met with
enthusiasm from his players, including Michigan running back Donovan Edwards,
who expressed confidence in Moore's ability to lead the team. "I’m
grateful he’s our head coach. I think it was a great decision for him to get
the job. He rightfully deserved it," Edwards told Fox News Digital in a
recent interview. "He was a remarkable coach as the tight ends coach, he
did a hell of a job as the OC, he just keeps moving up the ranks, and I
wouldn’t be surprised one day if he was an NFL coach one day."
Edwards noted that while Moore and Harbaugh have
different personalities, their approach to the game and their commitment to
winning are closely aligned. "The only difference is personalities, but
the mindset is the exact same – it’s all about winning and being a players’
coach and being able to relate to guys," Edwards said. "He really
takes what we say into fruition, into consideration. It’s not like he thinks
he’s above the law – he cares what we think and what we have going on."
Moore, who joined Michigan in 2018, now embarks on
his first head-coaching gig, carrying forward the legacy of a program that has
been consistently competitive under Harbaugh. As he takes the reins, the
Wolverines look to continue their winning tradition under a coach who has
already demonstrated his ability to lead and inspire his team.
