Model on 'Pink Cocaine' claimed to be 'from the future' after fatal crash, police report. Uncover the bizarre details of this tragic incident.
New York Model Faces Charges After Fatal Miami Crash While Allegedly
High on "Pink Cocaine
Miami, FL — Maecee Marie Lathers, a 24-year-old New York model, is
facing multiple charges after a devastating car crash in downtown Miami on
August 10 that left two people dead and two others injured. Lathers, who was
allegedly under the influence of "pink cocaine" at the time, has been
charged with driving without a license and leaving the scene of a crash
resulting in death or serious injury.
The incident occurred when Lathers, driving a white Mercedes, ran a red
light and collided with a black Range Rover and a silver Suzuki at high speed
on North Miami Avenue, just after 6:45 a.m. The crash resulted in the death of
Abraham Ismael, the driver of the Suzuki, and a rear-seat passenger who died at
the scene. Ismael's wife, Juanita Hernandez, who was also in the Suzuki, and
the driver of the Range Rover, were both hospitalized with injuries.
During her bond hearing, Judge Mindy S. Glazer condemned Lathers’
actions, citing her impaired state and calling her "an absolute danger to
the community." The court heard that Lathers had confessed to police that
she was high on a party drug known as "2C" and bizarrely claimed she
was from the future and had a crystal ball.
Security footage from the scene showed Lathers attempting to walk away
from the crash site before being brought back by witnesses. Judge Glazer noted
that without the intervention of bystanders, Lathers might have fled entirely.
Despite her attorney highlighting her academic achievements and stable
life in Florida, Lathers' driving privileges had been revoked in January,
further complicating her defense. Prosecutors are awaiting a toxicology report
to determine whether additional charges will be brought against her.
Hernandez, who survived the crash, shared her heartbreaking story,
explaining that her husband's death has upended their family's life,
particularly for their 16-year-old son. In a GoFundMe plea, Hernandez expressed
grief over her loss and her inability to work due to her injuries, noting that
her husband's death has also left his mother in Nicaragua, who suffers from
Parkinson’s disease, without financial support.
The case has drawn significant attention due to Lathers' social media
presence as an Instagram influencer and the severity of the charges against
her. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the full
extent of her impairment during the incident.
