Three Men Arrested After Woman Stabbed at Notting
Hill Carnival
Three men have been arrested in connection with the
stabbing of a woman at the Notting Hill Carnival, with police suspecting that
the victim may have been inadvertently caught in a violent altercation between
two groups of men. The incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. on Sunday,
leaving the 32-year-old woman in a life-threatening condition in the hospital.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that a
20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and violent
disorder, while a 24-year-old man and a 22-year-old man were arrested on
suspicion of violent disorder. All three men were apprehended at separate
addresses in Hammersmith and Fulham on Tuesday morning and remain in custody as
the investigation continues.
Commander Charmain Brenyah described the arrests as
a "significant step" in the ongoing investigation and expressed her
deep concern for the victim. "Our thoughts are with her and her loved ones
as she fights for her life after being caught up in the most awful
violence," Brenyah said.
The incident was part of a larger wave of violence
during the carnival, with five additional people stabbed and 230 arrests made
on Monday, the final day of the event. The Metropolitan Police commended the
swift actions of officers and police medics who provided emergency medical
treatment to the victim and worked quickly to secure the scene.
Commander Brenyah emphasized that investigations
into the other violent incidents over the carnival weekend are also ongoing.
The Notting Hill Carnival, one of Europe's largest
street festivals, saw heightened security measures this year due to concerns
about public safety. Despite this, the event was marred by numerous violent
episodes.
