As for the $95 billion package passed by the Senate, here's a breakdown:
The Senate passed a $95 billion package aimed at providing military aid
to Ukraine and Israel, as well as replenishing U.S. weapons systems and
offering humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza. President Joe Biden has
committed to signing the package on Wednesday.
The key components of the spending include:
1. Ukraine and Weapon Stockpiles: Approximately $61 billion is allocated
for Ukraine and replenishing U.S. weapons stockpiles. This includes $13.8
billion specifically for the purchase of weapons by Ukraine, along with over $9
billion in economic assistance provided in the form of "forgivable
loans."
2. Israel and Gaza Relief: Around $26 billion is designated for
supporting Israel and providing humanitarian relief in Gaza. Of this amount, approximately
$4 billion is earmarked for replenishing Israel's missile defense systems.
Additionally, more than $9 billion is allocated for humanitarian assistance in
Gaza, particularly in light of the Israel-Hamas conflict.
3. Indo-Pacific Allies and Countering China: Roughly $8 billion is set
aside for assisting U.S. allies in the Indo-Pacific region and countering
China. This includes over $3.3 billion allocated for submarine infrastructure
and development. Another $1.9 billion is designated to replenish U.S. weapons
provided to Taiwan and other regional allies.
The package represents a significant investment in bolstering the
defense capabilities of key allies, addressing humanitarian crises, and
countering strategic threats in various regions.
