Denmark's capital, Copenhagen, witnessed a devastating inferno as flames engulfed the historic Børsen, the city's old stock exchange building dating back to the 17th century.

Culture Minister Jakob Engel-Schmidt lamented the loss, emphasizing the incalculable value of 400 years of Danish cultural history consumed by the fire. The intensity of the blaze prompted swift action from bystanders who rushed to salvage precious historic artifacts, including paintings, from the inferno's grasp.

 

The Børsen, situated near Denmark's parliament, the Folketing, underwent renovations at the time of the fire, veiled in scaffolding and protective materials. Brian Mikkelsen, director of the Danish Chamber of Commerce housed within the building, pledged to rebuild despite significant damage.

 

Henrik Grage, a local craftsman, drew parallels between the tragedy and the Notre-Dame fire in Paris, underscoring the profound impact of such losses on cultural identity.
