A man is in a serious condition in hospital after being shot in the
abdomen in Banbridge.
Police said the man, who is in his 40s, was shot in a car park on the
Rathfriland Road. It was reported to police shortly after 20:00 BST.
Another man, also in his 40s, was arrested following the shooting.
The driver of a silver Citroen vehicle drove off from the scene
southbound on the A1 dual carriageway after the shooting.
It is being investigated whether this may be linked to a vehicle that
was reported on fire 20 minutes later in the Drone Hill Road area of Corbet.
The ambulance service said that it was called to the Tullyear Close area
of the County Down town shortly after 20:05 on Friday.
It said after that initial treatment at the scene one person was taken
by ambulance to Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital.
The MP for Upper Bann, Carla Lockhart, has appealed for anyone with any
information about the shooting to contact the police.
"It's very important that we give time and space for investigations
to continue," she added.
The off-slip and on-slip to the A1 dual carriageway at the flyover are both
closed.
The Drone Hill Road in Corbet is also closed with police in attendance.
Police have said the cordons and road closures will remain in place
tonight.
