Woman allegedly stabs 3-year-old boy to death in random attack at grocery store parking lot, shocking community and raising safety concerns
Tragic Stabbing of 3-Year-Old Boy
Outside Ohio Grocery Store in Random Attack
Cleveland, Ohio — In a heart-wrenching
incident, a 3-year-old boy named Julian was fatally stabbed in a seemingly
random attack outside a grocery store in North Olmsted, approximately 15 miles
from Cleveland. The horrifying event unfolded around 3 p.m. on Monday in the
parking lot of a Giant Eagle supermarket.
According to North Olmsted police,
Julian and his mother, Margot Wood, were attacked by Bionca Ellis, 32, who
allegedly stabbed Julian multiple times as he sat in a shopping cart. When
Julian's mother attempted to rescue him, Ellis also stabbed her, as detailed by
Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley.
Julian suffered severe stab wounds to
his back and cheek, leading to his tragic death. Margot Wood, 37, sustained
non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover. Ellis was swiftly
apprehended by police at the scene.
The attack was described as a
"random act of violence" by North Olmsted police Det. Sgt. Matt Beck
during a news conference on Tuesday. The police confirmed that Ellis and the
victims had no prior connection.
Before the attack, Ellis allegedly stole
two knives from a Volunteers of America Thrift Store adjacent to the Giant
Eagle. She then proceeded to follow Wood and her son into the grocery store
parking lot, where she launched the brutal attack.
North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones
expressed deep sorrow at the news conference, stating, "As a mother, I
cannot even begin to fathom the sense of loss that this family is going
through. The city and I all share in your loss."
Prosecutor O’Malley echoed these sentiments,
calling the case "truly devastating" and promising to "do
everything in our power to bring justice for Julian Wood and the Wood
family."
Ellis faces multiple charges, including
one count of aggravated murder, two counts of murder, two counts of attempted
murder, two counts of felonious assault, one count of endangering children, one
count of tampering with evidence, and one count of misdemeanor theft. She has
not yet been arraigned.
The community is grappling with the
senseless violence and the profound loss of a young life. This tragic event has
underscored the vulnerability and randomness of such attacks, leaving a town in
mourning and a family seeking justice.
