Mookie Betts' 10th-inning homer caps Dodgers' win against Tigers,
marking his recovery from illness and stunning performance
Los Angeles — Recovering from a challenging stomach
virus that kept him sidelined, Mookie Betts shone in the Los Angeles Dodgers'
thrilling 8-5 victory against the Detroit Tigers on Friday.
Betts hit two home runs, including a spectacular walk-off three-run
blast in the 10th inning, leading the defending World Series champions to their
fourth consecutive win this season.
Starting slow due to a 15-pound weight loss from the illness, Betts has
been focused on regaining his strength. The star commented, “I’m at 165 now, so
another seven or eight pounds will help a lot.” His determination paid off with
an impressive three hits, three runs, and four RBIs.
The Dodgers manager, Dave Roberts, praised Betts, saying, “He just does
some special things.” This victory marks their best season start since 1981,
adding momentum to their title defense.
