Hurghada. Emergency crews rescued 29 passengers. Cause under investigation.
A tragic incident unfolded off the coast of Hurghada, Egypt, as a
tourist submarine operated by Sindbad Submarines sank in the Red Sea. According
to municipal officials, six foreign tourists lost their lives, while nine
others sustained injuries. Emergency response teams successfully rescued 29
passengers.
The vessel, carrying 45 tourists of various nationalities, was
conducting a recreational dive near the Marriot Hotel resort when the accident
occurred. The cause of the sinking remains unclear.
Authorities have confirmed that all passengers onboard were Russian
nationals. The Russian embassy in Egypt released a statement on Facebook,
verifying that the group included children. Survivors were transported to
multiple hospitals in Hurghada for medical attention.
The Sindbad Club’s website states that its submarines offer short
underwater excursions, reaching depths of up to 25 meters to showcase the
marine life of the Red Sea.
Due to ongoing regional conflicts, many travel agencies have reduced or
suspended tours in the Red Sea. Further updates on the incident will follow as
more details emerge.
