Man
arrested in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, after being found in a child’s bedroom;
faces burglary and child pornography charges.
LEE’S
SUMMIT, Mo. — A Missouri man is facing serious criminal charges after police
say he was discovered inside a 9-year-old girl’s bedroom during a late-night
break-in.
Authorities
in Lee’s Summit responded to an emergency call around 11 p.m. Wednesday in the
1100 block of SE 11th Street. The call came from a couple who reported hearing
an unusual noise in their home while their children were asleep.
According
to police, the father initially assumed the sound came from his son but
discovered the door to his daughter's bedroom ajar. Inside, he found a
man—identified as 42-year-old Robert McDowell III—standing at the child’s bunk
bed with his hand placed on it.
Reacting
immediately, the father physically subdued McDowell while the mother called
911. Officers who arrived at the scene noted McDowell appeared erratic, and
both his speech and behavior were difficult to comprehend.
Court
records from Jackson County indicate McDowell has been charged with three
felonies: one count of first-degree burglary and two counts of possession of
child pornography.
Following
his arrest, McDowell reportedly admitted to using methamphetamine over the
weekend. He also stated he had no idea what city he was in at the time of the
incident.
The next
day, investigators secured a search warrant for McDowell’s mobile phone. A
preliminary digital search uncovered at least six images believed to be child
pornography, further intensifying the charges against him.
Currently,
McDowell remains in custody at the Jackson County Detention Center, held on an
$80,000 bond.
This case
remains under investigation. Authorities have not disclosed whether additional
charges may follow as forensic analysis of digital evidence continues.
