Manor
Solomon's winner at Oxford sends Leeds United one step closer to Premier League
promotion after a resilient display under Daniel Farke.
OXFORD,
UK – Leeds United moved within touching distance of Premier League promotion
after a 1-0 win at Oxford United, thanks to a composed first-half finish from
Manor Solomon.
Solomon,
on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, netted his ninth goal of the season and 12th
overall contribution in 2025, steering in Jayden Bogle’s low cross after a
superb diagonal pass from Joe Rodon. The 33rd-minute goal ultimately proved
decisive in a tightly contested match.
The
pressure was on for Leeds following earlier wins from promotion rivals Burnley
and Sheffield United, but Daniel Farke’s side responded with a performance
combining attacking threat and defensive steel.
Leeds had
chances to extend their lead through Bogle and Ao Tanaka, the latter striking
the post late on. However, the Yorkshire outfit were forced to endure a nervy
final 20 minutes as Oxford United, led by Gary Rowett, bombarded the box with
long throws and set-pieces.
Rodon was
particularly outstanding in the backline, helping Leeds earn a 23rd clean sheet
of the campaign — more than any other Championship team.
The win
brings Farke’s league tally to 181 points from 89 games in charge and moves
Leeds to 91 points, eclipsing last season’s total with three matches remaining.
Leeds
have also scored a league-high 83 goals, showcasing the attacking balance the
club has maintained despite losing Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville
to Premier League clubs last summer.
The club
is now on the brink of securing promotion after a two-year exile from the top
flight — needing to hold their nerve with key fixtures still to come.
