Inter clinches Serie A title and derby win over Milan, securing their second star. Catch up on the thrilling victory and their road to success.
Inter Milan secured their 20th league title with a 2-1 victory over AC
Milan in the derby on Monday, breaking a tie with their city rivals.
The win also earned Inter the coveted second star on their team shirts,
symbolizing their Serie A triumphs. Despite the pouring rain, Inter's fans at
San Siro celebrated jubilantly, reclaiming city bragging rights.
Francesco Acerbi and Marcus Thuram were the goal scorers for Inter,
while Fikayo Tomori scored a late goal for AC Milan. However, Inter held on for
the win, extending their lead over Milan to an insurmountable 17 points with
five rounds remaining.
For Inter's coach Simone Inzaghi, this victory marked his first league
title. The significance of winning the title in the Derby della Madonnina at
San Siro, despite being technically the away team, added to the celebration.
Inter's dominance in recent derby matches, winning the last five
encounters, including both legs of the Champions League semifinal last year,
and a 5-1 victory earlier this season in Serie A, added to the significance of
this triumph.
The match itself saw Acerbi opening the scoring for Inter in the 18th
minute, followed by Thuram's goal early in the second half. Although Tomori's
late goal for Milan added tension to the finale, Inter ultimately secured the
victory.
Tempers flared in the closing moments, leading to a scuffle between
players from both teams, resulting in red cards for Theo Hernandez and Denzel
Dumfries of Milan, and Davide Calabria of Inter. Despite the drama, Inter
emerged victorious, clinching the Serie A title in style.
