Harris Holds Slim Lead Over Trump Post-DNC, Poll
Shows
Vice President Kamala Harris continues to maintain
a slight lead over former President Donald Trump following the Democratic
National Convention, according to a new ABC News/Ipsos poll released on Sunday.
The poll indicates that Harris leads Trump 50 percent to 46 percent among all
adults and registered voters, with a slightly larger lead of 52 percent to 46
percent among likely voters.
The findings suggest that the post-convention boost
some candidates experience did not significantly alter the race. The numbers
are largely unchanged from a similar poll conducted in August, which showed
Harris with 49 percent support among registered voters compared to Trump’s 45
percent.
Despite the convention's impact being less
pronounced than expected, the poll revealed a widening gender gap in Harris's
favor. She now leads Trump by 13 points among women (54 percent to 41 percent),
an increase from a 6-point lead before the convention. Conversely, Trump leads
by 5 points among men (51 percent to 46 percent).
Harris received higher marks for her campaign
performance, with 56 percent of Americans rating it as excellent or good,
compared to 41 percent for Trump. However, Trump outperformed Harris on key
issues such as the economy and inflation, where he holds an 8-point lead in
trustworthiness, and on handling the U.S.-Mexico border situation, where he
leads by 9 points.
The poll also found that Harris is seen as more
trustworthy than Trump on issues related to protecting American democracy and
Supreme Court appointments.
Overall, the latest polling data suggests that
while Harris holds a narrow lead, the race remains tight. According to a
polling index by The Hill and Decision Desk HQ, Harris currently has a
3.8-point national lead over Trump.
