Brit 'Spiderman' arrested after climbing Eiffel Tower without ropes during the Olympics. Get the full story on this daring stunt
Louis
Davis, a British stuntman known for his daring feats, was arrested after
climbing the Eiffel Tower without ropes just before the closing ceremony of the
Paris Olympics. Davis, who has worked with Hollywood stars like Arnold
Schwarzenegger and Tom Cruise, scaled the iconic structure in the heat of 32°C,
navigating past the Olympic rings as stunned tourists watched.
He was
eventually arrested close to the bottom by specialist climbing police, who
charged him with "endangering the lives of others," an offense that
could lead to a one-year prison sentence and a fine of approximately £12,800.
Davis,
who has a history of performing high-risk stunts, impressed onlookers with his
ascent, which took place above the Olympic beach volleyball court. Despite the
disruption, the Eiffel Tower reopened around 3:30 p.m. and resumed normal
operations.
Known for
his fearless approach, Davis describes himself as a "seasoned stunt
rigger, rope access supervisor, and professional climber." His website
highlights his 20-year career in the film industry, working on complex stunts
alongside top Hollywood actors, as well as his experience in high-risk
environments. He has also previously climbed London's famous 'Cheesegrater'
building without ropes.
This
incident followed a largely peaceful Olympics in Paris, where heavy security
was maintained throughout the games, with over 35,000 police and gendarmes
deployed, peaking at 45,000 during the opening ceremony.
