Trump Declines Offer to Serve as Florida Delegate to Republican National
Convention
Barron
Trump, the 18-year-old son of former President Donald Trump and former first
lady Melania Trump, has turned down an offer to serve as a Florida delegate to
the Republican National Convention.
In
a statement released Friday afternoon by the office of Melania Trump, Barron
expressed his gratitude for the offer but cited prior commitments as the reason
for his decline. The news comes just two days after Barron was named as an
at-large delegate by the Florida Republican Party, alongside several other
members of the Trump family.
While
his brothers, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, and sister Tiffany Trump were
also named as delegates, Ivanka Trump was notably absent from the list. The
convention, scheduled to be held from July 15 through July 18 in Milwaukee,
will see Eric Trump serving as delegation chair.
Barron's
decision to decline the offer comes amidst his father's ongoing legal
proceedings, particularly the "hush money" trial in New York, which
has occupied much of Donald Trump's time in recent weeks. However, the judge
overseeing the trial granted him permission to attend Barron's high school
graduation, scheduled for Friday, May 17.
The
list of at-large delegates also included Kimberly Guilfoyle, Donald Trump Jr.'s
fiancée, and Michael Boulos, Tiffany's husband. The Florida Republican Party,
led by Chairman Evan Power following the ousting of former chairman Christian
Ziegler due to allegations of sexual assault, expressed confidence in the
delegation representing the state at the convention.
"We
are fortunate to have a great group of grassroots leaders, elected officials,
and members of the Trump family working together as part of the Florida
delegation to the 2024 Republican National Convention," Power stated in
response to the delegation announcement.
