Teen Arrested on Suspicion of Murder
Following Fatal Stabbing on Bournemouth Beach
Bournemouth, UK — A 17-year-old boy
has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a fatal stabbing incident on
Bournemouth's Durley Chine beach late Friday night. The attack left one woman
dead and another seriously injured, prompting an urgent police appeal for
witnesses and information.
Police were called to the scene at 11:42
p.m. after reports of a stabbing. A 34-year-old woman from Poole was pronounced
dead at the scene, while a 38-year-old woman, also from Poole, was taken to
hospital with very serious injuries. The families of both women have been
notified.
Following rapid investigative efforts,
the suspect, a 17-year-old boy from Lancashire, was apprehended. Dorset Police
issued a statement confirming the arrest and the ongoing investigation.
Supt Gavin House of Dorset Police made
an earlier appeal for witnesses, urging anyone with information about the
incident or the suspect to come forward. "The beach has been cordoned off
to enable officers to conduct a thorough investigation of the scene. I would
like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while this vital
work takes place," he said.
An aerial photograph of the crime scene
shows the closed and deserted beach area, with emergency vehicles present. The
affected area includes the stretch of beach between the Bournemouth Oceanarium
and the western side of Alum Chine, with closures extending to the promenade,
beach huts, Durley Chine car park, and surrounding businesses.
Conor Burns, MP for Bournemouth West,
expressed his condolences and concern, stating, "Awaiting further updates
from the police on the ghastly stabbing on the beach. A tragic death."
Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole
(BCP) Council communicated via social media that a police cordon remains in
place, and the specified areas within the cordon are currently closed.
This tragic incident occurs against the
backdrop of rising knife crime in the UK. Figures from the Office for National
Statistics reported a 5% increase in knife crime over the past year,
highlighting an ongoing concern for public safety.
Police continue to appeal for any
witnesses or individuals with information to contact Dorset Police urgently to
aid in their investigation.
