Elderly 'serial slingshot shooter' arrested after terrorizing Azusa neighbors for nearly a decade with property damage and shattered windows
81-Year-Old Man Arrested for Decade-Long
Slingshot Attacks in Azusa
Azusa Resident Prince Raymond King Taken
Into Custody Following Investigation into Serial Slingshot Attacks
An 81-year-old man, Prince Raymond King,
has been arrested in Azusa, California, following a long-term investigation
into reports of a "serial slingshot shooter" terrorizing the
neighborhood for nearly a decade.
For the past nine to ten years,
residents of the Azusa neighborhood, located approximately 25 miles east of
downtown Los Angeles, have been plagued by a series of mysterious attacks.
Windows, windshields, and even pedestrians were targeted by someone using a
slingshot to launch ball bearings, causing significant property damage and
posing serious safety risks.
After receiving numerous complaints from
residents about the "quality of life issue," Azusa police intensified
their investigation, which led them to Prince Raymond King. Last Thursday,
police executed a search warrant at King's residence, where they discovered
ball bearings and a slingshot, linking him to the series of vandalism
incidents.
The ongoing attacks had left the
community in a state of unease and frustration. Over the years, dozens of
residents reported incidents of broken windows and windshields, with some
narrowly avoiding injury from the projectiles. The arrest of King marks a
significant relief for the neighborhood, which had endured nearly a decade of
fear and property damage.
King was arrested and booked into Los
Angeles County jail, where he remains in custody without bail. Jail records
confirm the presence of an inmate named Prince Raymond King, age 81, matching
the details of the suspect arrested in Azusa. As of now, a mugshot has not been
made available.
The arrest has brought a sense of
closure to many residents who have lived in apprehension for years. Azusa
police continue to investigate the full extent of the damage caused by the
slingshot attacks and are working to determine if there are additional victims
who have yet to come forward.
This case underscores the persistent
impact of such seemingly minor but continuous acts of vandalism on community
well-being and safety. Residents hope that with King in custody, their
neighborhood will finally see the end of these disruptive and dangerous
attacks.
