In a shocking revelation, a Florida man aspiring to join law enforcement admitted to sexually abusing his cousin during a police department job interview, ultimately leading to his conviction and the prospect of a life sentence in prison.

Stephen Bodley, 26, was found guilty by an Orange County jury last week of sexual battery on a child, according to a news release from the office of State Attorney Andrew Bain. The conviction stemmed from Bodley's disturbing disclosure during the application process for a position with the Apopka Police Department.

The chilling details emerged as Bodley, in a sworn officer application, made reference to "playing sexual games." Subsequently, during an interview with authorities, he openly admitted to the heinous crime.

State Attorney Andrew Bain shed light on the investigation process, revealing that a certified voice stress analysis examiner conducted an examination on Bodley. During this procedure, Bodley was probed to elaborate on concerning responses he had provided earlier.

Bodley's confession sent shockwaves through law enforcement circles, as detectives swiftly moved to corroborate the harrowing account. The victim's mother was located and confirmed the close relationship between Bodley and the victim, according to an affidavit cited by The Tampa Bay Times.

The victim, identified as female, had previously reported the abuse to the Florida Department of Children and Families, recounting a prolonged period of victimization spanning several years. The abuse allegedly occurred from when Bodley was approximately 14 years old to around the age of 19.

During the trial, Bodley's defense attorney sought to prevent his confession from being presented as evidence, but the presiding judge rejected the request. Now, Bodley faces the grim reality of a potential life sentence as he awaits sentencing scheduled for June 24.

The severity of Bodley's crimes has cast a shadow over his aspirations and underscores the gravity of sexual abuse offenses. As the legal proceedings draw to a close, the case serves as a stark reminder of the profound impact of such reprehensible acts on victims and the broader community.
