Liam Payne’s tragic death: Clean from drugs, but preyed on by dealers in Buenos Aires hotel. Investigation ongoing
Drug
Dealers Exploited Liam Payne in Buenos Aires, Close Friend Reveals:
Investigations Ongoing
Buenos
Aires, Argentina — Liam Payne, the former One Direction
singer who tragically died at 31 after falling from a hotel window in Buenos
Aires, had been clean from drugs and alcohol in the weeks leading up to his
death, but was allegedly targeted by drug dealers at the hotel where he stayed,
according to a close friend.
Payne’s
battle with substance abuse had been long and public. The star had entered
rehab multiple times over the years, seeking treatment for alcohol and drug
dependency. However, in recent months, Payne had made significant strides
toward sobriety, supported by a new psychiatrist in Miami. His friends and
family believed he was on a promising path, as he hoped to start a fresh
chapter with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy.
But
during a trip to Argentina, where Payne was renewing his U.S. visa, local drug
dealers reportedly preyed on his vulnerabilities, supplying him with narcotics
that may have led to the tragic fall at the Casa Sur Hotel on October 16.
Payne’s
friend revealed that the singer had been clean for several weeks and was
looking forward to starting a new life. "Liam had been doing everything to
stay clean. He had gone through rehab more than once, and it looked like he was
on the road to recovery,” the friend said. “But when he got to the hotel,
people there started offering him drugs.”
Police
reports suggest that the hotel staff at Casa Sur were involved in smuggling
drugs into Payne’s room. Investigators discovered white powder, believed to be
cocaine and crack cocaine, as well as other drug-related items, hidden in a
Dove soap box in Payne's suite. Authorities are currently analyzing these
substances to confirm their nature.
The
hotel cleaner and another employee are under investigation for their role in
smuggling the narcotics. One taxi, ordered in Payne’s name, was traced to the
cleaner's home, prompting his dismissal and police questioning. Investigators
are also probing the hotel’s alleged connection to a notorious drug supplier
from a poverty-stricken neighborhood in Lomas de Zamora, 15 miles away from the
hotel.
The
National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office is treating Payne’s
death as "inconclusive" as they await toxicology results, which could
take up to 15 days. Lead prosecutor Marcelo Roma is overseeing the
investigation, focusing on how Payne’s drug consumption may have contributed to
the fatal fall from the hotel window. The postmortem confirmed that Payne died
from multiple injuries, but the exact role that narcotics played is yet to be
determined.
Payne’s
family, led by his father Geoff Payne, has been working with Argentine
authorities to repatriate the singer’s body to the UK. Geoff Payne arrived in
Buenos Aires last week to formally identify his son, and plans for Payne's
funeral are underway, with services expected to take place in November.
The
global response to Payne’s death has been overwhelming, with tributes pouring
in from fans and fellow musicians. Vigils and gatherings have been held in
various cities, including London, Manchester, and Paris, where fans came
together to remember Payne and the music that touched so many lives. As an
integral part of One Direction, Payne contributed to shaping the sound and
culture of a generation, leaving behind an enduring legacy in pop music.
Despite
the circumstances surrounding his death, many are choosing to remember Payne
for his music, resilience, and dedication to his family, particularly his young
son Bear, born in 2017. Payne often spoke lovingly about fatherhood, revealing
how his son was a central part of his life and journey toward healing.
For
Payne’s fans, the tragic end to his life is a stark reminder of the dangers of
addiction and the vulnerabilities of those in recovery. As investigations
continue, there is hope that the truth will come to light and justice will be
served for those responsible for exacerbating Payne’s struggles in his final
days.
