Train Collision Leaves One Dead, 15 Injured: RAIB Investigation Ongoing
Llanbrynmair,
Wales – A tragic train crash on Monday evening near
Llanbrynmair, Powys, has resulted in one passenger's death and left 15 others
injured.
The
collision involved two trains—one traveling westbound from Shrewsbury to
Aberystwyth, which failed to stop at a passing loop, colliding with a
stationary train bound for Shrewsbury.
Emergency
services, including air ambulances and coastguard helicopters, rushed to the
scene. According to the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB), the collision
occurred at low speed, around 24 km/h (15 mph), but the impact was significant.
Passengers described the sudden halt as "brutal."
Investigators
are considering possible causes, including a new digital signaling system and
slippery track conditions. Local councillors and residents have raised concerns
over train safety, especially on single-track lines like this one. The line
remains closed as the investigation continues.
