PORTLAND,
Ore. — In a thrilling season opener, the Golden State Warriors dominated the
Portland Trail Blazers 139-104 on Wednesday night. Stephen Curry was a key
figure, contributing 17 points, 10 assists, and nine rebounds before sitting
out the final quarter. Buddy Hield also shone, adding 22 points off the bench.
Despite
Portland’s strong start, leading by as much as nine points in the first
quarter, Golden State quickly regained control. By halftime, the Warriors had
secured a 62-50 lead, which only grew throughout the second half. Curry’s
3-pointer at the start of the third quarter fueled the team to stretch their
lead by as many as 37 points.
Portland's
standout was Scoot Henderson, who scored 22 points off the bench. Unfortunately
for the Blazers, Shaedon Sharpe did not play due to a shoulder injury.
One
of the notable takeaways from the game was former Blazers head coach Terry
Stotts' return to Portland, now as an assistant coach for the Warriors. Stotts
received a warm tribute from the Portland crowd, acknowledging his years of
leadership.
Warriors
coach Steve Kerr praised Stotts’ contributions to the Warriors’ organization,
emphasizing the improvements in team organization this season. "We’re
definitely more organized this year than we’ve been in the past, and Terry has
been a huge part of that," Kerr said.
